Mississauga, ON (November 4, 2021) – Ontario Finance Minister Peter Bethlanfalvy today delivered his Fall Economic Statement that built on the Fall 2021 Throne Speech. Minister Bethlanfalvy laid out the Government’s plan for economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and a pathway to economic growth for Ontario.
TECHNATION, on behalf of its members, is pleased to see the introduction of the Building Ontario Business initiative to help reduce barriers that companies face to secure public-sector contracts. This will strengthen Ontario’s supply chains and provide a foundation for Ontario firms that need to start selling at home before exporting abroad. TECHNATION has long argued that the best way to help SMEs is with a contract not grants and the Building Ontario Business initiative will help do just that.
The launch of the Small Business Digitalization Action Plan is also a positive step with an additional $40 million to enhance Digital Main Street and $10 million to create the Small Business Digital Competence Centre. COVID has been especially hard on Ontario’s SMEs and it is critical that all governments continue to invest in their recovery.
TECHNATION will work with the Ontario Government on the announced initiatives, including those for Health and Talent, in order to ensure Ontario’s tech sector prospers beyond the pandemic.
