Ontario Mission to 2022 Collision – Launch of Mission Recruitment

The Government of Ontario is now accepting applications for the General Participation (Stream 1) and the Start-up Participation (Stream 2) of Collision 2022.

The Government of Ontario invites Ontario companies in artificial intelligence/machine learning, blockchain, fintech, autotech, big data, eCommerce tech, education tech, cybersecurity, sensor-based technology, environment/clean tech, gaming/VR&AR, digital health, medtech, enterprise-tech, entertainment and media, logistic/supply chain tech, industrial IoT and other technology enterprises to join Stream 1 or Stream 2 of the export business mission to the 2022 in-person edition of Collision.

Collision is North America’s fastest growing technology conference that attracts leaders from the global technology community every year. The 2021 version of Collision from Home attracted 38,000 attendees including 850 investors and more than 1,250 start-ups from 140 countries. It also featured over 600 high-profile speakers from public and private sectors across the world. Collision is amongst the most sought-after events for the technology industry. In 2022, Collision has entered its 7th consecutive year and will return to the Toronto Exhibition Place. 2022 Collision will be offering participants the full conference experience–from speakers’ series to Business to Business meetings– and showcase opportunities, all in person.

Participation Options

Two participation options are available, based on your business status, qualifications and interests:

Stream 1: General Participation (100 tickets available):

This option is open to both start-ups and well-established SMEs. One General Attendee Ticket per company.

This option is open to both start-ups and well-established SMEs. Ticket holders have access to all of Collision’s content, including exciting speakers’ series, educational masterclass, exhibition floor, and networking/meeting tools. See complete ticket benefits at Ticket Benefits.

Stream 2: Start-up Participation for Qualified Start-ups (48 spots available)

This is a dedicated option for qualified start-ups to showcase their innovative technologies, products and solutions to global attendees. The start-up program delivered by Event Organizer includes but is not limited to:

  • Three General Attendee Tickets for each eligible participating start-up.
  • One-day exhibition between June 21-23 in the designated Start-up Island within the Partner Start-up Island area (exhibiting day to be assigned by the Event Organizer).
  • Access to:

    • Start-up Masterclasses
  • Opportunity to apply for PITCH start-ups competition, applications close on June 3. 
  • Use of the event app, which combines your schedule, your contact network, and an info hub.

Application Steps and Selection Criteria for Stream 2:

Please note the below steps are developed according to the start-up program application requirements and decision-making procedure set out by the Event Organizer.

Step 1: Pre-registration

Ontario government will pre-screen the applications based on the following criteria. If you are confident you meet all these requirements, please complete and submit your application Here. Kindly provide only one contact at this stage.

The start-ups are subject to final approval by the Event Organizer and will be assigned to the relevant track (ALPHA or BETA), or rejected, based on the criteria below.

  • Must be less than five years old.
  • To qualify for the ALPHA track the start-up can have raised no more than US$1 million in funding.
  • To qualify for the BETA track the start-up can have raised no more than US$3 million in funding.
  • Must at a minimum be launched and live with their own working website.
  • Must have your own unique software product or solutions, or they must be working on their own connected hardware devices.
  • Must be an independent company and not a subsidiary of a larger organization.
  • Must have a logo available in .eps format.
  • Consultancies, agencies, developers, marketing/advertising agencies, and public companies will not be accepted.
  • A start-up already registered for the start-up program is not eligible to participate as part of a start-up island.
  • A start-up that has raised more than US$3 million in funding is not eligible for the start-up island but may apply for the GROWTH track (not included in Stream 2), at standard costs (CAD2,995). We will connect you with the Event Organizer if you are interested in this option.

Step 2: Qualification Check by Collision Team

If you pass the pre-screening, you may be asked to submit an intake form to Collision Team. Please complete and submit the form as soon as possible so the Collision Team can start their vetting process and make final approval/decline decision shortly.

Please note the start-ups are subject to final approval by the Event Organizer and will be assigned to the relevant track (ALPHA or BETA), or rejected, based on the criteria above.

Step 3: Official Registration

Upon receiving approval/declined decision from the Collision Team, you will be asked to complete a simple official registration and make payment online. Registration and payment instructions will be provided at a later date.

A success manager assigned by Collision Team will take care of your journey upon completing all three steps, however, as an official delegate of the Ontario Export Business Mission to Collision, your company will be included in all Collision-related mission promotion and marketing campaigns initiated by the Government of Ontario.

Participation Fee

Stream 1: C$150 per company (not per attendee)
Stream 2: C$600 per company (not per attendee)

Important Note:

  • Only 100 spots are available for Stream 1 and 48 spots are available for Stream 2. Spots are offered on first come, first served basis. So, apply as soon as possible!
  • You may apply for both Stream 1 and Stream 2 if you are not confident about your qualification for the start-up program. However, if you are successfully accepted to the start-up program, your spot in Stream 1 will be removed and offered to other companies as per their application sequence.
  • Stream 2 application will be submitted to Collision Team on a rolling basis, so complete pre-registration as soon as possible to start your application process.

B2B Program on the Margins of Collision 2022

  • An additional matchmaking program is provided by the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service, in partnership with provincial and municipal partners including the Government of Ontario between June 20 – 24, 2022.
  • The B2B program will be offered in a flexible hybrid format and aims to provide innovative Canadian tech companies with the chance to connect with major buyers and investors from Europe, Asia, Africa, South and Central America, and the United States.
  • Application deadline is April 29. No cost for participation.
  • We will share program application details via a separate email next week. You may receive emails directly from Trade Commissioner Service if you have had previous interactions with the TCS network.
  • Please note that you do not need a ticket to Collision to participate in this program. B2B meetings will be conducted virtually through the TCS B2B Platform from June 20-24 and in-person at the Beanfield Centre in Exhibition Place from June 21-23. Collision will be hosted at the Enercare Center in Exhibition Place from June 20-24.
