Position Location

Toronto/GTA – Remote Working location. There is an expectation that the individual in this role will be available to travel as required for face-to-face meetings to our Mississauga office.

About the Role

As a trusted advisor to the President and CEO, the Finance Director will ensure the sound financial management of the Company. Working closely with the CEO and other business leaders, the incumbent will play a critical role in setting the direction of the Company by leading the annual budgeting/forecasting planning process and tracking the financial performance against business objectives monthly.

Position Responsibilities

Financial Analysis & Management:

  • Oversee all aspects of accounting, financial reporting and related compliance.
  • Reviewing monthly reconciliations of all General Ledger accounts and resolving all queries related to the accounting department
  • Reviewing and approving all the AP invoices to confirm budget allocations based on various government projects and organizationally approved limits.
  • Processing semi-monthly payroll on Ceridian portal. Addition and update of new employees, issuing ROEs, T4s, Year-end returns and resolving all payroll related queries.
  • Processing and approving EFT payments through TD bank portal and cheques as required for vendors and wage subsidy payments for employers.
  • Calculation and finalization of deferred revenue, accruals, and prepayments monthly along with cost allocation journals for different projects, events, etc.
  • Support financial monitoring of project budgets hosted under programs (i.e., Marketing, platform development, events, etc.)
  • Review and finalization of project-based GLs with project managers and updating budget tracking spreadsheets on a quarterly basis to ensure timely submission to the relevant authorities.
  • Managing organizational and government project budgets to ensure cost allocations, variances and actual GLs are prepared on a timely basis to submit claim forms and financial reporting.
  • Respond to all audit requests and financial monitoring’s from funding provider(s) and ensure compliance to the funding agreement and best practices
  • Managing organizational cashflow to ensure all AR/AP is managed as required. Government advances are accounted for based on the Future Project Expenditures
  • Managing quarterly and annual internal and external audits along with finalization of annual financial statements.
  • Review and continuously improve the internal controls and processes within the organization.
  • Financial cost-benefit analysis for risk management and feasible proposals.
  • Managing organization insurances, Registered Pension Plan, Employee extended health and dental benefits plans.
  • Reviewing and approval of vendor SOWs, agreements & Proposals before presentation to the CEO.
  • Manage SharePoint sites, document libraries, permissions, setups, etc.
  • Central point of contact for IT Managed Service Provider, equipment inventory and other projects for good governance of IT infrastructure.
  • Supervise management of IT assets including remote servers as well as other technology services provided by the third-party vendor

Leadership & People Management:

  • Support business leaders in planning and executing strategies as well as key operational deliverables to achieve organizational financial and non-financial objectives
    • Work with senior leadership to plan and track performance towards short- and long-term business objectives.
    • Lead senior leadership team in financial planning
  • Preparation & presentation of presentations/financial reports for review by CEO at the Governance and National Board Committees.
  • People management responsibility for staff within the Finance function
  • Vendor Management
  • Understand and execute all elements of the Performance Management Cycle

Qualifications

  • Excellence in communication and presentation skills, verbal, written and interpersonal.
  • A high level of professionalism and ethical conduct.
  • CA/CPA with 7-10 years of management experience.
  • Project based accounting experience is essential to be successful in the role, government-funded project experience is desirable
  • Must be comfortable working with QuickBooks online, SharePoint file server and documents on the cloud.
  • Tech-savvy and quick to understand online portals for banking, CRM and Microsoft Office 365.
