On September 5, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced new measures to protect, build and transform Canadian strategic industries.
TECHNATION fully support measures that aim to upskill and reskill Canada’s workforce and strengthen our digital economy. The new reskilling package and Strategic Response Fund are timely and strategic, helping workers and businesses adapt to disruption and seize new opportunities in a rapidly evolving global economy.
We also recognize the importance of supporting Canadian business growth through procurement. The Small and Medium Business Procurement Program will be helpful for Canadian SMEs to access and navigate the federal procurement system without the immense roadblocks they face today. While we support the intent behind the new Buy Canadian Policy, we encourage the Government of Canada to take a balanced approach — one that recognizes the enormous contributions of multinational technology companies that operate, employ and invest in Canada, and that continues to prioritize value, innovation and the best outcomes in delivering government services to Canadians.
Canada’s tech ecosystem is global, diverse and deeply collaborative. As we build a more resilient and inclusive economy, we must ensure that policies reflect this reality, while driving competitiveness for Canada. We look forward to working with the federal government to ensure Canada remains a destination where people want to work, companies choose to operate and innovate, and investors continue to see the long-term value.
TECHNATION is continuing to monitor the announcement closely and will provide additional updates as more clarity on these policies and programs becomes available.
