AI is a major global economic driver; in Canada, it is expected to drive SME productivity by $100B by 2030.
Through the Government of Ontario’s Trustworthy AI Framework and Bill 194, Ontario is taking a lead to ensure the responsible use of AI in public sector without compromising on cybersecurity, risks and management, and setting an example for the rest of Canada.
On November 14, TECHNATION President and CEO Angela Mondou and EVP Government Relations & Strategy Prateek Sureka highlighted the importance of balancing AI regulation with innovation to Ontario’s Standing Committee on Justice Policy. Amongst their recommendations, they proposed co-developing industry standards for AI fairness, privacy and non-discrimination with government and tech leaders, adopting regulatory sandboxes for public sector innovation, and a balanced approach to AI adoption that considers regulatory needs while encouraging innovation.
A transparent, collaborative approach between government and industry must continue to ensure regulations stay relevant and effective. We look forward to continuing to work with our members and provincial partners to build public trust in AI and keep a globally-leading digital economy in Ontario.
