Exports are an important driver of economic growth and innovation, but Canadian companies have not fully exploited the potential of international markets. Access to international markets opens doors to: networks of peers and experts, allowing for knowledge gain and to make valuable
contacts; new markets and diversified consumer bases; new product development and service ideas; and access to diversity and
talent on a global scale.
This report reviews the pre‑COVID‑19 state of women entrepreneurs and their exporting behavior based on three sources: a review
of the existing literature; 96 in‑depth interviews with women entrepreneurs; and a survey of 815 entrepreneurs and some decision makers.
