DGSI Announces The Publication Of CAN/DGSI 112, The New National Occupational Standard For Cybersecurity

Ottawa, August 15, 2023 – The Digital Governance Standard Institute is proud to announce the publication of the new national standard of Canada, CAN/DGSI 112 – National Occupational Standard for Cybersecurity. This groundbreaking standard sets minimum core requirements for entry-level qualifications of cybersecurity professionals across all sectors, aiming to enhance the nation’s cyber resilience and ensure a competent and skilled cybersecurity workforce.

“Having a unified standard like CAN/DGSI 112 will be a game-changer for our profession. It will streamline career pathways, promote continuous professional development, and foster collaboration among cybersecurity practitioners. ” – Charles Finlay, Founding Executive Director, Rogers Cybersecurity Catalyst

The CAN/DGSI 112 standard addresses the diverse and ever-evolving field of cybersecurity and covers professionals working in IT security, information security involving digital artifacts, and digital security. The scope of the standard encompass essential elements such as physical, personnel, project, and contract security, while excluding specific technologies or techniques, thus ensuring its relevance and applicability in various domains.

“CAN/DGSI 112 establishes a common baseline for role-based cybersecurity skills and knowledge across the country. This standard helps align education with cybersecurity workforce requirements. It is also a great resource for employers, educators and job seekers as it more clearly defines cybersecurity roles and what constitutes cybersecurity work. This, in turn, should help us better address our cybersecurity talentgaps and strengthen our nation’s cybersecurity.” – Randy Purse, Senior Cybersecurity Advisor, Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst, Toronto Metropolitan University.

The release of CAN/DGSI 112 marks a significant step forward in advancing cybersecurity standards, and the Digital Governance Standard Institute invites stakeholders, organizations, and educational institutions to embrace this standard as a cornerstone of their cybersecurity strategies and workforce development initiatives.

“With the ever-present and accelerating cyber threat around the world, the CAN/DGSI 112 National Occupational Standard for Cybersecurity provides critical structure and standards for cybersecurity leaders and companies building cybersecurity teams in an extremely dynamic and high-stakes environment. As part of the national team who pulled together the national ecosystem, TECHNATION wholly supports streamlining cyber career pathways and ongoing collaborative efforts to ensure a better supply of cybersecurity professionals.
