Welcome to TECHNATION’s Calgary Wage Subsidy Program!

We’re excited to offer the Calgary Wage Subsidy Program, providing substantial wage subsidies for tech-immersive placements. This program aims to support skill development in high-growth areas such as AI, cloud, data, cyber security, and software development while promoting growth and innovation for businesses in Calgary. Leveraging TECHNATION’s Career Ready Program, we are able to provide up to 80% in wage subsidies for work placements between September 2024 and April 2025 (Fall ’24 and Winter ’25).

This initiative is funded by the Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund (OCIF), the Government of Alberta’s Workforce Development Grant, and the Government of Canada’s Student Work Placement Program to foster innovation and growth in Calgary’s tech sector.

Subsidy Details:

Calgary Wage Subsidy: 

• Provides up to 80% wage subsidy for tech-immersive placements, based on an average salary of $24 per hour over 16 weeks 
• Example calculation:
  • Gross wages: $15,000 
  • Subsidies: $12,500 
  • Employer contribution: $2,500

Standard Career Ready Program Subsidy: 

• Offers a 50% wage subsidy up to $5,000 per placement, or a 70% subsidy up to $7,000 for students from under-represented groups

Program Phases: 

• Phase 1 (Weeks 1-12): Initial onboarding and integration period 
• Phase 2 (Weeks 12-16): Focused on deepening skills and project involvement

Eligibility and Requirements: 

• Available to all employers based in Calgary
  • SMEs will be given priority
  • Large enterprise are still encouraged to apply
• The role must be tech immersive, but priority given to AI, big data, and machine learning roles (target 30%) 
  • Business operations roles such as digital marketers, business analysts, and alike are still encouraged to apply
• Employers must pay a minimum of 25% of gross student earnings in Phase 1 
• At least 25% of the work placement must be completed in-person 
• Student must be a resident of Calgary
• Employers are welcome to apply for as many positions as they like (no cap at 5)
  • Please notify us at careerready@technationcanada.ca to inform us if you intend on hiring more than 5 students
• Fall 2024 (Sept-Dec) and/or Winter 2025 (Jan-April) placements
