Since May 2021, Ontario Health has been offering a series of webinars on the changes to the Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 regarding Digital Health Information Exchange (DHIEX), in theOntario Regulation 569/20, s. 1.

Last month were the first of three webinars that focused on this topic. Presenters shared a high-level overview of the DHIEX regulation and some of the expected changes to our interoperability standards direction to align with the regulation.

What’s Next? July 20 Webinar: Ontario Health’s Patient Summary Project

A patient summary is a health record extract comprising of a standardized collection of clinical information that provides a snapshot in time of a subject of care’s health information and health care. Ontario Health’s Patient Summary project is meant to enable clinicians and potentially citizens to access clinical documentation – join this webinar to learn about Ontario’s role, in conjunction with Canada Health Infoway, in allowing secure sharing of patient summaries across different solutions to support transitions of care and cross-jurisdictional patient flows.

More about the project:

The project will leverage the international patient summary standard and initially focus on work with two electronic medical record systems and up to 50 clinicians. The scope and scale for the patient summary will be phased and increase to meet the needs of additional use cases over time – the goal is to implement a first release patient summary that can scale over time to add other important health information.
