The changes to the Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 regarding digital health information exchange are now in effect as of January 1, 2021 in the Ontario Regulation 569/20, s. 1. The regulation provides Ontario Health the ability to define and implement the health information standards and requirements for use in interoperability specifications for consistent sharing of meaningful health information, thereby enabling stronger support for digital health information exchange in Ontario. Ontario Health is now able to monitor and address compliance with the interoperability standards and foster standardization across the health system for the benefit of patients and health care providers.
