Our History
We proudly represent Canadian technology companies changing the world through innovation, creativity and ingenuity.
The ability to innovate is imperative for sustainable growth and long-term success. Technological advancements, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), 5G technology, cyber security, artificial intelligence (AI), and smart cities, all serve as engines for innovation; they have the potential to trigger significant economic growth, and influence every area of our working and personal lives. Technology is also driving innovation within the areas of talent, diversity and healthcare – all key areas of focus for TECHNATION.
As a prominent advocate for the expansion of Canada’s innovation capacity, TECHNATION encourages technology adoption to capitalize on productivity and performance opportunities across all sectors. A member-driven not-for-profit, TECHNATION has served as the authoritative national voice of the $170 billion ICT industry for over 60 years. More than 36,000 Canadian ICT firms create and supply goods and services that contribute to a more productive, competitive, and innovative society. The ICT sector generates over one million jobs directly and indirectly and invests $4.9 billion annually in R&D, more than any other private sector performer.
We promote growth by connecting Canadian scale-ups with global tech leaders; engaging the global supply chain; filling the technology talent pipeline; and providing advocacy, professional development and networking opportunities – including B2B and B2G events and initiatives, as well as strategic partnerships and funding opportunities – across all levels of industry and government. We help members explore new markets and scale through curated Trade Missions around the world. And because the digital age opens the doors of the world to millions of SMEs and scale-ups, TECHNATION also focuses on helping our members of this size highlight their offerings to large enterprise members through a virtual marketplace, CANADA’S DIGITAL MARKETPLACE powered by TECHNATION.
By working together through multi-sector collaboration, we help identify and develop pragmatic solutions to pressing national challenges and influence national technology strategy in critical areas. This includes a focus on: improved competitiveness of Canadian industry and global competitive position; business and government resilience; and prosperity – developing a Canadian digital economy for the future through our TECH4CANADA initiatives. Technology prosperity that benefits everyone relies on a strong partnership between the private and public sectors. TECHNATION was formerly called the Information Technology Association of Canada (ITAC).
