About the Role
Reporting to the VP, Membership, this role leads TECHNATION member prospecting, recruitment, onboarding, engagement and renewal as well as other duties as assigned. With a heavy emphasis on membership sales and growth to drive recruitment, retention, and engagement against an annually defined goal, the Director, Membership will:
- Manage a pipeline of prospects and contribute to the long-term organizational success
- Provide independent sales leadership, account management, customer relationship management and membership management
- Collaborate with Communications and Program Leaders to:
- Develop membership sales campaigns, sales collateral and presentations, and messaging that supports membership acquisition, engagement, and retention
- Ensure members are aware of value proposition and receive strong value
- Communicate event sponsorship packages to members and prospects
- Work with senior leadership and finance to establish an annual membership development pipeline of prospects within the Canadian tech sector, as well as associated identified revenue potential against annual fiscal target
- Provide additional in-person support at local (GTA or Ottawa) events
Job Responsibilities
Membership Sales & Growth — Prospecting
- Execute a comprehensive membership sales strategy for identifying and qualifying prospects
- In partnership with senior leadership, analyze market trends to identify new membership segments and growth opportunities
- Cultivate a robust pipeline of prospective corporate members through outreach, networking, referrals, partnerships, cold calls, email campaigns, and social
- Tailor member value propositions to membership prospects of all sizes
- Develop and support Program Leaders on outreach strategies/engaging prospects at events, and book prospect meetings to include relevant Program Leader(s)
- Provide regular progress/status reports
- Respond to inbound inquiries and leads within one business day
- Lead negotiations and close membership agreements working with Finance
Member Recruitment & Onboarding
- Present TECHNATION value proposition to prospects
- Partner with Program Leaders to close prospects
- Negotiate members fees/sponsorship with new members
- Tailor proposals and member experience to specific member needs and TECHNATION programs
- Curate the onboarding package and deliver onboarding sessions for new members
Engagement & Retention
- Accountable for engagement/retention of members, highlighting member value by staying current on programs, services, and events across Government Relations and Policy, Industry Development, and Future Workforce Development
- Develop and manage engagement and retention strategy:
- Develop and execute TECHNATION Annual Member Pulse Survey as well as targeted surveys throughout the year as needed
- Conduct continuous improvement of membership processes through regular member feedback and make improvement recommendations to senior leaders
- Coordinate program check-ins with TECHNATION program leaders to conduct and communicate updates to key accounts
- Tracking member events/committee engagement and evaluation results
- Promote events and committees to low engaged members
- Work with Program Leaders to ensure we are delivering on our events and committees
Renewals
- Develop and update membership renewal process and timelines
- Work with Program Leaders and senior team on strategies for renewals including payment terms; prepare promotional material to be sent in renewal packages
- Negotiate fees with members and reports on renewals and new business development
Operations & Reporting
- Maintain accurate membership records, sales activities, and forecasting data
- Prepare regular reports for senior leadership and Board on membership trends, revenue performance and pipeline health
- Optimize membership processes, pricing models, and onboarding workflows
Key Relationships
- Reports to Vice President, Membership
- Works closely with Program Leaders, Communications, and Finance teams
- Liaises with prospects and members
Professional Experience/Qualifications
- A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive account management leadership, membership sales and business development experience in a membership organization
- Strong track record for growing customers/membership engagement
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding revenue targets
- Experience selling to a range of company sizes
- Exceptional influence, communications, and relationship building skills resulting in strong relationships and enhanced member engagement with key member leaders and stakeholders, and the broader membership community
- Has an ability to inspire, engage, and influence others to achieve desired objectives, as well as to promote and expand an organization’s influence and impact
- Experience in diversifying revenue streams and identifying non dues revenue opportunities to ensure fiscal health and support membership growth and engagement
