Globally, government procurement is a $12 trillion market. Public purchasing not only supports public service delivery; it also accounts for 12-15% of GDP in Canada and in other nations. In recent years, public procurement has been in the spotlight and government leaders have been challenged to respond to a broad mix of compliance, trade and value for money questions.

TECHNATION will host a solutions-oriented industry panel for government and business leaders, featuring insights from the recently released Smart Procurement Group (SPG) report, originally launched by Compass Rose. Speakers will discuss actionable ideas for more agile and effective procurement processes, policies, programs, contracting structures and governance. Government procurement leaders will also hear industry perspectives on inclusions, socio-economic initiatives, and strategies to drive smarter, more efficient public purchasing.

The SPG was founded in fall 2025 to tackle common procurement challenges through a solutions-based, cross-sector approach. Its membership includes SMBs, Canadian and U.S. multinationals, hardware suppliers, and software publishers, ensuring all perspectives are reflected in its work. Under the guidance of Kelly Hutchinson, a veteran digital government and procurement strategist, and Christian Roy, former senior Government of Canada legal executive, the group produced a report with actionable recommendations to strengthen policies, terms, and conditions while aligning private sector and government priorities.
