Kanata’s CMC Microsystems Launches Training Series on Demystifying Computer Chip Technology for Non-Techies

May 30, 2023:  CMC Microsystems, Canada’s leader in enabling semiconductor design and fabrication at 68 post-secondary institutions and industry, has announced a new training series on demystifying and understanding computer hardware technology.

The training series is targeted at individuals who work inside technology firms or supplier companies but don’t have experience or education in hardware technology.   The one-day workshops are designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to progress in the dynamic world of semiconductors.

The first workshop series to be held at the HUB350 facility in Kanata, Ontario on June 27, 2023. Registrations can be completed online at https://www.cmc.ca/training-semiconductor-technology-for-non-techies-tnt/

Participants can expect to be briefed on topics including:

  • Global Industry Overview – Scope and Value Chain Complexity
  • The Business of Chips – Opportunities & Risks
  • Science & Engineering – Design it, Own it, Protect it (IP & Patent Dynamics)
  • Manufacturing & Technology Evolution (Partner Risk and Management)
  • Canadian Industry – Update on Global Context and Evolution

Alastair Mullin, Director of Government Relations at Carleton University, attended a beta test course in December of 2022. “Every area of business and public policy touches advanced technologies. This training session allowed me to better understand how the semiconductor industry is structured, how it impacts all areas of our lives, and how technology, business, and public policy are interconnected. CMC experts also explained the fundamentals of how chips work in simple, accessible terms. I highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to better understand the semiconductor ecosystem.”

The semiconductor industry plays a pivotal role in powering the world’s progress. From smartphones and laptops to self-driving cars and artificial intelligence (AI), microchips form the backbone of these ground-breaking innovations. However, comprehending the intricate workings of this industry can be a daunting task, particularly for non-technical professionals.
